Students from Swansea Metropolitan University’s famous Swansea School of Glass are to open an exciting new exhibition of their work in Swansea at the end of September 2012. The 2012 MA Degree Show, entitled ‘MA 2012 Glass Masters – extending the language of glass’, can be viewed, free of charge, in the iconic National Waterfront Museum. It runs from Saturday 29th September until 28th October 2012 and is open daily from 10am to 4pm.
The exhibition features innovative creations each with their own unique and distinctive style of glass design, and many of the exhibitors have completed private and public commissions.
The 2012 MA graduates in Glass from Swansea Metropolitan University are an unusual gathering of artists, the backgrounds of whom are diverse and unexpected. Ranging from those who work in the corporate setting to practitioner artists who run independent glass businesses, the eight students have come together in an affectionate community of inventiveness and camaraderie.
The diversity of the group is further underlined by their geographical origins and interests in everything from the healing qualities of glass to the effect of moonlight and half-light on architectural spaces.
By coming up with new ideas and exploring innovative ways of working with glass, the students are committed to creating effects that deepen the experience of viewers, thereby, extending their understanding of the language of glass.
Glass has unified this eclectic group of individuals … “In spite of our different origins, a love of glass and a passion for light brings us together and inspires our research and experimentation. Having been taught by different hands, our former influences have enriched our mutual expression and exploration of glass. We came together as strangers. We leave the MA as life-long friends.”

SMU Welsh School of Architectural Glass. MA Glass 2011 Exhibition.
September 14, 2011The 2011 MA Architectural Glass exhibition to be held at Colonnade Gallery, National Waterfront Museum, Swansea from OCT 1st to NOV 6th.
The 2011 MA Architectural Glass exhibition is the culmination of a two year journey of discovery taken by six very different artists. Each one has made an investment in self-knowledge and personal growth to further their artistry and craft. An architecture graduate has found a new perspective on glass in buildings; an installation artist has found new dimensions in light and shade. A practicing glass artist has rediscovered simplicity and purity of form; a former teacher is expressing her love of landscape through kiln formed glass. A practicing tutor has worked with metal and glass to create forms from nature with practical applications and a former conservator has brought nature from the outside to the inside. Visitors to the exhibition can experience some of the journey for themselves through the voice of each artist in glass.

Glass Fayre – Swansea Waterfront Museum – 3rd / 4th Dec 2010
November 29, 2010The glass department has been in existence for some seventy years and has an international reputation for training and design in the field of stained and decorative glass. The fayre is primarily of glass artefacts and other articles related to the educational activity of the School. This fayre will give you an opportunity to purchase a unique hand crafted glass gift and who knows a family heirloom of the future.
This annual Christmas fayre helps students to fund their studies so your purchase will be going to a good cause. This event has previously been held for several years at Swansea Metropolitan University, the home of the Architectural Stained Glass. It’s relocation comes as a product of the thriving relationship between Swansea Metropolitan University and the Waterfront Museum.
