Students from Swansea Metropolitan University’s famous Swansea School of Glass are to open an exciting new exhibition of their work in Swansea at the end of September 2012. The 2012 MA Degree Show, entitled ‘MA 2012 Glass Masters – extending the language of glass’, can be viewed, free of charge, in the iconic National Waterfront Museum. It runs from Saturday 29th September until 28th October 2012 and is open daily from 10am to 4pm.

The exhibition features innovative creations each with their own unique and distinctive style of glass design, and many of the exhibitors have completed private and public commissions.

The 2012 MA graduates in Glass from Swansea Metropolitan University are an unusual gathering of artists, the backgrounds of whom are diverse and unexpected. Ranging from those who work in the corporate setting to practitioner artists who run independent glass businesses, the eight students have come together in an affectionate community of inventiveness and camaraderie.

The diversity of the group is further underlined by their geographical origins and interests in everything from the healing qualities of glass to the effect of moonlight and half-light on architectural spaces.

By coming up with new ideas and exploring innovative ways of working with glass, the students are committed to creating effects that deepen the experience of viewers, thereby, extending their understanding of the language of glass.

Glass has unified this eclectic group of individuals  … “In spite of our different origins, a love of glass and a passion for light brings us together and inspires our research and experimentation.  Having been taught by different hands, our former influences have enriched our mutual expression and exploration of glass. We came together as strangers.  We leave the MA as life-long friends.”
